Founding Partner

John Burke

With a background in chemical/biochemical engineering and over three decades of experience, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector clients turn to John Burke for patent counsel. His practice includes opinion work, due diligence, licensing and prosecution in the areas of small molecules, biologics, genomics and related delivery devices. John is continually ranked by leading industry publications including Best Lawyers and IAM Patent 1000, which notes that he is “well known for his excellent work in the pharmaceutical field” and “excellent to deal with on a business level.”

John has previously led patent practices for the regional offices of several international and national law firms, including Akerman, Greenberg Traurig, Merchant & Gould, Pillsbury Winthrop and Morgan & Finnegan.  John possesses a unique in-house perspective that bolsters his practice. He has served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel for Deltagen, a functional genomics and drug discovery company located in the San Francisco Bay Area, and as Corporate Patent Counsel for Cortech, a Denver-based biopharmaceutical company.

Albert Gyorkos

Albert Gyorkos, Ph.D. has over 19 years in drug discovery and development having held senior management and scientific positions at Rhone-Poulenc, Cortech, Hauser Labs, Array BioPharma, Replidyne and Chemizon. He has led teams that have placed multiple clinical candidates in the therapeutic areas of Oncology, Inflammation, Neurological Disorders, Osteoperosis and Antibacterials with expertise in areas including kinases, GPCR’s, and DNA replication inhibitors. Dr. Gyorkos received his B.A. in Chemistry from University of Colorado, Boulder, his doctorate in organic chemistry from Colorado State University, and has authored several patents and publications. Dr. Gyorkos has assisted with pharmaceutical and chemical patent prosecution including analysis of competitor patent portfolios. He served as a technical advisor regarding intellectual property at Akerman, LLC.
